"As one of the many graduating seniors this year, I must say that this is certainly one of the best schools in the north and I do recommend sending your children here.
Most of the teachers here are willing to lend a helping hand should students require assistance. They consistently make their best efforts to make lessons fun, interesting and engaging (such as Mr Joel, Mdm Lai, Ms Suriya and Mdm Lim)—however, for the MTL department, the teachers (except Mr. Lim, kudos to him) often have a very short temper and use verbal insults against students should they misbehave. For instance, one teacher forced a kid with a broken ankle to stand up for not doing his homework which was assigned whilst he was hospitalised.
When doing exercise booklets, some CL teachers just show you the answer and expect you to jot down everything within a short timespan as they rush you. In fact, they don't even bother to go through the syllabus, instead leaving us to revise in our own free time which caused most of their student's grades for their MTL to be poor.
Some substitute teachers are also pretty clueless, rude and even a little racist and biased, with some blatantly disregarding the teacher's instructions. Discipline is taken very seriously in this school, and students who skip classes, make a public nuisance or bully others (online and offline) face punishment if the school finds out. However, I find some of their punishments to be way over the line. The current vice principal (who will be retiring next year) is hated by most students due to her short temper, strictness, critique on minor details such as hairstyles, grumpy demeanour as well as her boring teaching style. An example of this would be when she dragged me to the general office along with one of the year heads as well as my parents before BERATING and harshly SCOLDING me in front of them due to an outstanding disciplinary case of mines, with her even using hokkien swear words against me! (not the kind of language you would want to use against a primary school student.)
One of the year heads is also known for some of the punishments he hands out to students. He’s reportedly used corporal punishment against a student before on-stage in front of the whole school and often uses this incident as a stern reminder of the consequences of misbehaviour. During the post-PSLE briefing for my cohort, he along with the VP mentioned earlier forced students to stop leaning against the cupboards, threatened disciplinary action against students who misbehaved, and, word-by-word, said “We will be hunting down some of you during the next last few weeks of your Primary School life due to outstanding disciplinary issues which we did not address during the PSLE period, so you better watch out.”
He's also confined students (including me) in the general office for a week and has even forced students to walk back and forth along the corridors whilst carrying their bags as punishment. This takes a severe toll on both their academic performance as well as their metal health (speaking from experience).
The school uniform is also very uncomfortable, causing students to opt for the P.E. uniform as they tend to sweat a lot.
Despite the upgrades done to the school in recent days, the facilities on hand are poor, with toilets having broken equipment and foul stenches, and even faulty toilet door locks! Some chairs are rusted and can easily be broken, risking the safety of students should they suddenly break.
There are a limited amount of CCAs here, especially after certain CCAs such as badminton were removed in 2022. Some students are also often seen making a public nuisance out in public after school hours (i.e. on bus 900, at vista point and vista park), disturbing residents in the area which causes numerous complaints to be filed to the school.
Planned events in the school are very fun and engaging, but I do often feel like they are a little biased towards the lower primary pupils."
